Jan van Hövell

Founder Jan van Hövell used to work as a commercial lawyer for a major Dutch law firm, drawing up contracts for mergers and acquisitions. In 2017, he quit his job to follow his calling. Nowadays, he works on the weekends as DJ Verboden Vruchten and is more than full-time engaged as a social entrepreneur at KLABU. As the son of parents who both work in the refugee world and as a former intern at the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, Jan discovered the magic of making a connection that cuts through the apparent differences between people at an early age. "As a child I didn't know what refugees were, but we just started playing football together”.

Jan set up KLABU in order to offer young refugees a chance to rebuild their lives. "Playing sports has an enormous healing effect, but most of all it instantly connects people without making a difference who is who. I strongly feel that KLABU can make a huge difference in the lives of many refugees who live in the toughest conditions", according to Jan.

It should be clear: Join the KLABU!
